The
north coast of Ispaniola has two seasons: wet and dry. The dry season
runs from March through October with the hottest and driest weather being
in July and August. The rainy season is actually somewhat of a misnomer.
While it is possible to have a storm pass through that can cause a rainy
day or two, it is more common to have both sun and rain in any given day.
Those who have been to Hawaii will find the winter climate very similar.
Daytime temperatures vary relatively little from season to season. It is never cold in this part of the Caribbean. The main difference is at night. In the winter the breezes will cool things off to the point where you might want a light windbreaker or jacket if you are sitting up on the terrace.
While mosquitoes are not a major issue at the house they can be a little bothersome on a still night, at sunset or at the beach at the end of the day. Guests are advised to bring a good quality bug spray as a precaution.
Your major concern will be the impact of the sun. Each guest must gauge his or her own tolerance and plan accordingly. Each room is provided with sun block but guests are advised to bring whatever level of sun protection they feel is most appropriate.
Perhaps the most important thing to remember is that the Hacienda is not a resort. You will be walking on unpaved roads, across beaches and through fields. Good footwear can do more to enhance your vacation experience than almost any other thing you can bring. We strongly recommend waterproof shoes that are comfortable for walking but which you can wear into the water.
